John 1:17 "The law came by Moses"

Moses and Joshua; type of the relationship between Law and Grace. Both play a role in bringing lost sinners to salvation in Christ.

Moses stands in type of the law; Joshua (which means savior) stands for grace. As we think of these two men and their relationship to each other and how their work/ministry relates to each other we see a type of Law & Grace.

Notice:

I. Law- Came by Moses John 1:17

A.) Shows us the righteous requirements of the Holy God.

B.) Condemns all who fail to keep the whole Law.

C.) Reveals our sins & guilt before God, Romans 3:19-20

II. What the Law can not do:

A.) Can not fulfill those righteousness of God in us, Romans 8:3 Weak through the flesh. Moses smiting the Rock the 2nd time, could not lead the people into the promised land.

B.) The Law as a schoolmaster brings us to Christ, Galatians 3:23-25

1. Moses led the children of Israel up to the boarders of the land- could look into it but could not enter in himself nor lead the people into it, Romans 3:30

2. Timothy 1:8 Only Grace (Joshua a type of Christ) not works (Moses a type of the Law) could do that: Ephesians 2:9, Romans 4:4-5, 16, Romans 6:14-15 & Romans 11:6

III. Grace Jesus

A.) Grace provides a perfect righteousness through faith, Romans 4:5

B.) Grace provides a perfect atonement for sin through faith, Romans 3:24

C.) Grace provides the quickening- new birth by the Holy Spirit, Ephesians 2:1 & 8. Repentance of our sins, faith in the Son.

Grace not only leads us into the promise land- Salvation Also makes us more then conquers through Jesus, Romans 8:37 & I Corinthians 15:57
